Combining Lean Initiatives with Theory of Constraints in Distributed Product Design Chain Management
نویسنده
چکیده
As manufacturing organizations develop e-Business strategies, the product development process is also embracing electronic models where design chains, which are groups involved in sequences of related product design events, play critical roles in the overall Product Life Cycle. However, current distributed and electronic product design environments are not optimized for successful output based on certain constraints, which include inadequate information infrastructures and poor product data management. Benefits of superior electronic product design chain models include: (i) improved product quality, (ii) reduced time-to-market for products and (iii) improved overall global competitiveness. This paper presents a framework for improving the functionality of product design chains. It applies lean principles and the concept of Theory of Constraints, which is a management philosophy used in manufacturing environments. The proposed framework is compared to an existing design method with strong points highlighted. The paper concludes with a brief discussion on model limitations.

Using Markov Chain to Analyze Production Lines Systems with Layout Constraints
There are some problems with estimating the time required for the manufacturing process of products, especially when there is a variable serving time, like control stage. These problems will cause overestimation of process time. Layout constraints, reworking constraints and inflexible product schedule in multi product lines need a precise planning to reduce volume in particular situation of lin...

This paper discusses the simulation study carried out for proposing one-piece lean line layout with features of Lean Manufacturing. The lean initiatives that can be addressed are, introducing Kanban replenishment sys-tem, better work-in-process, changing the layout, visual management techniques, standardized work for the re-duction of cycle time, number of workers, number of setups. To improve ...
متن کاملTechnological Implications of Supply Chain Practices in Agri-Food Sector: A Review
Today, the global business environment compels enterprises to consider rest of the world in their competitive strategy analysis where firms ignore external factors such as economic trends, competitive positions or technology advancement in other countries. While going truly global with supply chain management, a company develops product in the United States, produce in India and trade in Europe...
متن کاملSupply chain network design with multi- mode demand based on acceptance degree of fuzzy constraints violated
This paper designs a mathematical model for supply chain network design problem including plants, distributors and customers in fuzzy environment. Each plant and distributor has several levels capacities. A multi-mode demand strategy is considered for the customers where only one of the modes is to be selected for each customer. Considering the acceptance degree of fuzzy constraints violated, a...
